Since my first semester at North Carolina State University (back in the Fall of 2009, I know it sounds like a long time ago…) one of the first events I attended was a certain ‘Salsabor’, an event celebrating the beginning of Hispanic Heritage month (September 15 – October 15). Ever since then, I have attended this event as I consider it one of my favorites as a student here in NC State. This year it was even more special, as it will be my last one as an undergraduate and is the last one I helped organize as a member of “Mi Familia”, the biggest Latino-student organization on campus. I always look forward to this event during the Fall Semester!
The Purpose of this event, “Salsabor” is to give a very warm welcome to the Hispanic Heritage Month with a presentation of Latin American Folklore. Of course the main event is the Salsa competition, which this year had a very good turnout and even better participation from the public as everyone stood and danced to the rhythm of Salsa. Traditional Latin food is provided so that the experience is not only to the senses but also to the taste!

This event has been organized by the abovementioned “Mi Familia” executive board in collaboration with the Multicultural Student Affairs Office, different Latino organizations on campus and individual students interested in collaborating in enriching this experience for everyone attending. Entrance is free and open to anyone interested in having a good time. This is also an event I highly recommend anybody to attend while at North Carolina State University, whether you want to participate in the organization, volunteering, dancing or simply as a spectator enjoying the show; this is a very good experience as you get to learn about the rich Latin American musical folklore and have a good time with your friends.
